My beautiful girlfriend, Kat, and her daughter visited me last month, and we had the best time.
We went to the aquarium, visited family, hit up all kinds of shops, and we celebrated my 40th birthday…40. Jeez.
While we were walking around downtown on a Monday, headed to Ben & Jerry’s, Kat spotted a couple of Jehovah’s Witnesses standing on the corner of the street. I never would have noticed them, but I guess she has a keen eye for spotting them, since she used to be a JW, herself.
Kat was a Jehovah’s Witness for the first 26 years of her life, so she knows all there is to know about the cult. I know some people might shy away from calling them that. I will not.
The pair that we saw before getting ice cream was 2 guys, and Kat confronted them, asking if they were aware that people who leave their religion and are shunned by their families are killing themselves.
I don’t think they often encounter people who have much to say to them; they just want to stand there and hand out their little pamphlets.
*Update* Kat says what they were doing is called “cart witnessing.” They have little carts with their information for people to take.
One of them said “I’m sorry you feel that way,” and Kat said “It’s not that I just feel that way. It’s a fact.” I chimed in with “It’s objectively true.”
I didn’t really chime in much because Kat knows JW inside and out and was raking these people across the coals.
On our way back, there were 3 women in place of the 2 men, and we didn’t hold back on them, either.
Some may think it’s harsh. It’s not. If they can stand out there on the street corner, potentially triggering anyone who has ever escaped that GD cult, then we can stand there with them all day and speak our minds.
I haven’t had many encounters with JWs. It was interesting. They barely said anything. They just sat there and stared at us. Their only goal is to bring more people in. Jehovah. That’s all that fucking matters.
I’ve gotta say: it was hot as shit to see my woman speaking out against religion. I loved it so much.
I will continue to push back on religion because it deserves it.
People have the right to believe what they want, but we have the right to question it and call out the bullshit when it hurts others.
Segue…
Which leads me into my next point: I’m bringing back the Jesus Unfollower podcast! If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know I started that podcast in 2020, a few weeks before the pandemic and went at it for a solid year and a half…then it got sporadic.
Then, I kinda got burned out.
Then, I launched another podcast “What The Heaven Did I Just Watch?” because I thought it would be fun to watch and make fun of Christian movies. You know what I found out? I don’t really like forcing myself to watch Christian movies…I’d rather do something else.
But, I still do love talking about leaving Christianity, atheism, and dumb comments that I get, so I’m bringing back the podcast later this month.
I hope you’ll give it a listen!
