Welcome to The Ex-Christian Observer: a weekly newsletter from a former Christian unpacking the madness that is evangelical Christian America.
Tomorrow is my birthday!
If you appreciate what I do, consider a birthday gift of a paid subscription.
It’s $5/month or $50/year.
Let’s get into some comments from upset Christians, shall we?
They’re so quick to say “bashing a religion.”
I hear this all of the time.
They always replace the word criticizing with bashing, and I think it’s because that makes it easier for them to justify in their brains that I’m doing something wrong.
This comment was on a post that merely said “Things to do on Sunday instead of going to church: literally anything else.”
How is that bashing anything? It’s lighthearted and was made for people who have left the church, but Christians always make everything about them.
Also, LGBTQ isn’t a choice like, say… following a religion.
A WHOLE SERIES OF GRAPHS??? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE.
There’s no hope for dudes like this…and I’m not even just talking about that horrible hat in his profile picture.
Does he know that many of the most peaceful countries on Earth are the least religious?
What’s happening in the Middle East right now… guess what’s the root cause of it.
I’ll give you a hint. It starts with R and ends with ELIGION.
I will never NOT push back on people who just say “God says x” or “God does y.”
You’re free to think that, but it’s an opinion, not a fact.
I’m all right, too, dilly; you just don’t like what I post.
They get angry when people don’t just go along with the bullshit spewed by religious peeps.
That’s just not true, Richard. May I call you Dick? That’s just not true, Dick.
People are literally killed for drawing cartoons of Muhammad. They get offended.
I speak about Christianity (and so do many other atheists) because we used to be Christians, and the USA is about 65-70% Christians. That’s why that particular religion hits home to us.
I’ll give it to Dayton. At least he apologized and admitted he was wrong. That’s more than can be said for most evangelicals.
Trust me, you don’t want to “Read more” where that message gets cut off.
I wonder what Clark is doing as I write this. If I had to guess, he’s just typing his name over and over.
Always always always telling me how angry I am while they type a paragraph about it.
Although reading his chunk of text made me dumber, I do feel sorry for him.
Why does his comment sound like a breakup ballad?
“If I became atheist I will do anything like racism”
You don’t need a god to have morals.
Mr Science Atheism Man is my new superhero name.
By Joe’s logic, if the smartest person on Earth is an atheist, that means there’s no god.
Am I wrong?
I don’t think all theists hate questions, but if he is simplifying atheism to 3 words, I can do the same for believers.
The good ol’ No True Scotsman fallacy…
Funny thing is: I wasn’t a woke progressive Christian at all. I was a conservative. A Republican. I try to have empathy for them because I was once like that.
Sick burn, bro.
Zero doubt in my mind that this guy’s hard drive is the scariest place on Earth.
Thanks for being here.

I do this to make people laugh, to process religious trauma, and to remind us all we’re not alone in this Christian nationalist hellscape.
If that’s worth a few bucks a month to you, I’d be honored.
