Welcome to The Ex-Christian Observer: a weekly newsletter from a former Christian unpacking the madness that is evangelical Christian America.
What’s up nonbelievers, doubters, and skeptics?
Firstly, we’re having a Zoom hangout in Skeptic Circle Tuesday night at 8pm EST. I’d love to see you there! If you like what I do, this is a chance to support my work and also have a private community of other nonbelievers.

This week, I did something I’ve never done before; I went to the Tennessee State Capitol. My lovely fiancee and I sat in while the House of Representatives discussed and eventually voted on Gov. Bill Lee’s school voucher proposal.
It’s always strange to me how government sessions are started with prayer. Why is prayer a public thing? If people want to pray beforehand, they can do that, right?
The bill passed both the House and the Senate and will be placed on Lee’s desk to be signed into law.
This voucher bill is not a good thing, in my opinion. Essentially, public tax dollars are going to be funneled into private schools, and most of the people who benefit will be parents whose children are ALREADY IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS.
Senator Heidi Campbell (D - Nashville) called Tennessee's proposal an "assault on the American dream" and said it would bolster Christian nationalist movements in the state. She said she had not received a single message from a constituent supporting the proposal. - WBIR article
This is what we’re going to see: the decline of the public school system and new private schools sprouting up in churches all over this state.
Parents will be getting $7000 vouchers to put toward the cost of private schools. We’re going to have unqualified people teaching the youth of this state, which will lead to less educated children, which leads to less educated adults, which is probably exactly what they want.
Comments From Christians
This week, I have a lovely collection of comments from religious people.
He seems very excited for my one-way ticket to hell.
They really get offended when anyone criticizes their religion, eh?
Ah, yes. The old “ex” comment. Such a horrible analogy.
I make content for nonbelievers. Believers find my page and demand answers to their dumb questions. Nah, I’m good.
Thanks for your protection, I guess?
It doesn’t take long for the name-calling to show itself.
I think you missed an apostrophe, Mr. High IQ.
Well, that’s terrifying.
Yeah, that makes total sense, Noah.
So, having hobbies means we can’t criticize religion? How did we arrive there?
If you’re not subscribed to my YouTube channel, make sure to do so! I have some cool stuff coming there soon.
And remember: You don’t need a god to be good.
Kevin
