What’s up nonbelievers, doubters, and skeptics?
Welcome to The Ex-Christian Observer: a weekly newsletter from a former Christian unpacking the madness that is evangelical Christian America.
Well, here we are. 2024 is almost over. 2025 and all that it will bring is just around the corner.
A new president incoming (hope you like tariffs).
It might be hard for some of us to get excited about 2025, but, dammit, I’m determined to make it a great year.
It’s been a while since I’ve done anything noteworthy or fun on NYE, and, to be honest, this year could be the same.
My fiancee and I (thank you) are still trying to figure out what we’re going to do.
We might go grab a couple of drinks downtown, or… we might just chillax at home.
One thing we won’t be doing?
PRAYING AS THE CLOCK STRIKES MIDNIGHT.
*cue cringe memory*
At my pentecostal af church, that’s what we used to do.
We would have a church service on New Year’s Eve—sing some worship music, listen to a brief sermon, and then pray for the new year as the calendar flipped from 12/31 to 1/1.
The rest of the world is having a blast, celebrating, drinking, kissing, whatever…
And we were PRAYING while soft music played in the sanctuary.
Yikes.
But at least those days are done.
The Circle
If you like the work that I do at Jesus Unfollower, consider joining Skeptic Circle! It’s a private community for nonbelievers, doubters, and skeptics!
We currently have 15 members and are already having some good conversations in there.
The next 10 people who join will get in for $6.66/month and will be founding members!
In January, we’ll start having events like watch parties and virtual hangouts.
I hope to see you inside!

Comments from Christians
I get so many of the same comments that I actually created a few Christian Bingo cards.
Feel free to save these, post them to your IG story, and tag me if you get any of them!
Let’s see which lovely comments I got this week. Well, this first one actually isn’t addressed to me, but it was on one of my posts and is ridiculous.
Female jumberjack.
Imagine Jesus sitting in front of these folks, reading their comments.
To be honest, I’m not sure that I want to live in this country, either, but why should I have to leave for not believing like you do?
Here’s another lovely comment by Connie:
I’ve gotten this comment several times recently, and I’m just perplexed, I guess.
I truly don’t get it. Oh well. BLOCKED.
“Jesus is holding me back” is a new one.
People often say words that they think are impactful. They are not.
Bad grammar makes me emotional.
Lots of circling happening on those bingo cards, eh?
Blocking Christian apologists has nothing to do with not being able to handle “the truth,” I assure you.
“Chow.”
Called a bitter lowlife on Christmas Day lol. They’re so much like Jesus.
Fulfilling prophecies? By saying that your supernatural claims are nonsense? What a weak-ass prophecy.
He seems angry. Sorry, buddy. You can’t control me the way YHWH controls you.
I blocked someone and they made another account just to comment this hahaha
“Naccistic.”
Gee, I wonder who you voted for, you kind soul.
Is Jesus…an investment opportunity?
Now that my brain hurts, I’m gonna sign off.
Remember: You don’t need a god to be good.

I enjoy reading your comments, if only because I am amazed at two things; one is the hatred directed at you for not believing in other people’s religious convictions and two, because in a country whose one and only virtue, as far as I am concerned, is the principle of free speech there are so many people who seem to demand that principle for themselves yet want to deny it to others. Both are part of the same issue of course. Although the US likes to promote a certain image of itself as an open, free, tolerant society, from my perspective here in Australia it is anything but that. I wonder if you ever saw The Handmaids Tale? You do know what they would do to you if the religious fundamentalists took over your country? I guess you have a bag packed with ‘Canada’ written on it?
