Today’s Christian comment comes from the amazing Thomas Stoops (I have no idea who he is).
There’s this thing that Catholics and Orthodox Christians do where they think they’re the only real Christians.
It’s the ultimate No True Scotsman fallacy.
They say that Protestants aren’t real Christians.
They laugh at Evangelicals (I don’t really blame them there), saying that the nonsense that goes on in their churches isn’t really god.
“That’s not the Holy Spirit.”
Yeah, I don’t think it is, either, but can you really ridicule people when you think that you’re drinking the literal blood of Christ and eating his body?
Y’all sit in booths and confess your sins to a guy dressed like he belongs in The Matrix, yet you laugh at the absurdity of Protestants?
Back to what Thomas said about me:
I’ve never claimed that I understand every aspect of Christianity, and I also would not call myself an academic atheist; I just like to make funny things and point out the hypocrisy of those who are assholes in the name of their gods.

I shake my head at these folks the same way I shake my head at myself when I am convinced that the reason the Cubs lost is that I wore the wrong color. The human brain has a remarkable capacity for self-deception! It's good to have friends to point out our irrationality as well as share some of it. So long as that irrationality doesn't adversely harm anyone else, there's no problem with occasionally indulging it -- but like alcohol, over-indulging can be dangerous.
Catholics may laugh, but I like to point out that they are part of the biggest ring of child exploitation in the world, arguably, because at this point there’s probably more to uncover in that department. The Catholic Church has paid almost $5 BILLION dollars to victims of their priests and clergy, and that money buys them immunity from prosecution. Everyone attending their churches and donating money is complicit. Don’t even get me started on the Catholic schools for the indigenous children, Catholics have been in the mix of exploitation, torture, killing and domination for at least 1000 years now.
