What’s up nonbelievers, doubters, and skeptics?
HATE is a word that gets thrown at me a lot.
“Why do you HATE Christianity so much?”
“Imagine running a HATE page…”
Hate is defined as “intense or passionate dislike” for something or someone.
So… yeah, maybe I hate the way that Christianity is used as a weapon against people. I hate that individuals and groups are suppressed and feel unable to be themselves because of some rules written by some people a long time ago.
I hate that pastors pick and choose which verses they want to apply to their lives and to their churches.
I hate that wars are fought because of differences in religious beliefs.
I hate that a select few people in power can change the laws in our country because of ancient texts that they hold sacred.
But when I get accused of hate, I think there is a lot more beneath the surface of those accusations.
In reality, the only issue is that they don’t like that I’m talking about their religion and not others.
On almost every post, I’ll get a comment like this:
This is on the milder side.
I get many that demand I speak on all religions. They want me to “hate” on Islam and Judaism, so to speak.
This proves my point that the only reason they’re upset is because I’m speaking on their specific brand of religion.
And then you have people like “Auspearl” here who is upset that he can’t openly hate on trans people.
There’s a difference, right?
There’s a difference between talking about beliefs and having a desire to hate on people because of who they are.
Am I crazy?
Beliefs and identities are different.
Who a person is and what a person believes are different.
It’s the very fact that people say things like this that lets me know what I’m doing is important.
They can call it hate. That’s fine. I think it’s more on the side of keeping the hate of others in check.
Evangelical Christians are fearful. They’ve been in control for so long but feel their grip loosening on this country. This makes them more fearful and more angry.
I’m thankful for social media, which gives individuals an outlet to find others like them. It enables people to speak up and out against the systems that have caused them harm, and I’m fuckin HERE for it.
If that’s hate, then I’m gonna pour a 64 oz Haterade and drink the whole thing.
Our voices are important.
Let critical thinking guide the way!
